Spinal microsurgery is the technique by which, using a surgical microscope, we intervene in back pathologies such as herniated discs or spinal stenosis.
The procedure is performed using a surgical microscope, through a minimal incision of just 3 cm, facilitating recovery in less than 24 or 48 hours.
Microdiscectomy for herniated discs
For herniated discs, the most frequently performed procedure is a microdiscectomy. It involves removing the fragment of the intervertebral disc that causes compression, which is the part that has shifted out of place and is pressing on the nerve roots.
Microlamiectomy or microlaminoforaminotomy for spinal canal stenosis
For spinal canal stenosis, Dr. Mosqueira uses two procedures. The first is a decompressive microlaminectomy, along the line of the spine in the area where the pain appears. In this procedure, part of the vertebra that is compressing the nerves is removed, thereby relieving the pressure.. The second option is a microlaminoforaminotomy, a surgical technique that relieves pressure on the nerve by widening the opening in the back where the nerve roots exit the spinal canal.
Forget the pain and regain your quality of life
In this way, using microsurgery and a surgical microscope, Dr. Mosqueira can treat herniated discs and spinal stenosis, both lumbar and cervical. This provides patients with the quality of life they dream of.
To keep in mind that everything will depend on the level, the condition, and the location where the narrowing of the spinal canal is located. As we mentioned earlier, in mild cases a conservative treatment may always be indicated.
